Professional Licenses
Foreign Correspondent ID Card
The correspondents for foreign news outlets in Portugal have the right to apply for an identification card which oversees his/her activity and grants access to information sources.
Foreign correspondents must abide journalists’ ethical norms, as well as being subject to the same incompatibilities.
Granting and renewing
The application for a foreign correspondent card must be submitted as soon as the applicant starts his/her work in Portugal. It is valid for two years from the moment it is granted and its renewing is mandatory.
The renewing is submitted by the applicant in the month prior to the card expiry.
If the journalist stops working as a correspondent, he/she must inform the CCPJ about it and return the card. If the correspondent fails to meet this obligation, he/she will be notified to return the card in ten days. The non-return of the card in the said period will force the CCPJ to ask the police authorities to apprehend it.
How to submit the application
The applications for granting and renewing the professional licenses can be directly submitted online via the Private Area.
